Anti-arthritic potential of ethyl acetate fraction of <em>Pinus roxburghii</em> Sargent stem bark in Freund's complete adjuvant induced arthritis in Wistar rats

Traditional and folk medicine regularly make use of the Pinus roxburghii Sargent (Pinaceae) plant. Unfortunately, there is a lack data on this plant's potential anti-arthritic effects.Pinus ethyl acetate stem bark has properties in Wistar rats with arthritis produced by Freund's Complete adjuvant. As positive control, diclofenac was administered. To define activity, influence pain perception parameter, haematological parameters, effect rheumatoid factor, CRP, serum parameters were evaluated.In study, fraction roxburgii found to significantly inhibit at doses 250 500 mg/kg. Serum levels RF, NO, CRP lower group compared disease control group. In disease-free rats, raised RBC lowered WBC, both which point suppressive inflammatory mediators. The number cells had decreased, as seen histopathology. Several imaging including spur formation, joint spacing, bone erosion, etc., reduced radiological assessment.In authors noted that direct slowing progression arthritis, reducing inflammation synovitis, protecting arthritic joints from cartilage deterioration. Stem extract been shown have action based clinical, biochemical, histological analysis. Yet more research required pin down precise mechanism action.
